Class Update

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all doing well :)

Things are moving along quickly in first grade at this point.

We have just finished up our chicken research writing. After vacation we will be starting their individual animal research projects. Students will have a choice of 4 animals, each first grade classroom will teach about 1 animal. So depending on the animal your child chooses to research, he or she may be in a different class each afternoon for about 2 weeks.

There will be a home project to go along with their research. We are still working out the details. A notice will come home about it with the homework packet on the Monday after break.

Next week, our class will revisit narrative writing by creating a poster or book (their choice) using pictures from home. For Monday, each student needs to bring in 3-5 photos. Some choices are  writing about family members (so photos of family members), traveling or a special family place (so photos of multiple destinations or 3-5 photos of one destination), family holidays/celebrations...I am also open to other ideas. Photos can be printed or emailed to me. The photos will be glued onto their project or inserted digitally depending on student's product choice.
I've never done this project before but I am excited. I think it will be a lot of fun!

Lastly, as we are starting to think about the end of the school year, I would like to invite you all to our class author share on Tuesday June 20th from 10:45-11:15. I will send more details home as the date gets closer.

Please don't hesitate to reach out should you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,

Classroom updates and reminders

I can't believe we are nearing the end of December!
I just wanted to send a few reminders:

1. Tomorrow is the last day (12/15) to send in pajamas for our drive. I will be taking the box to the post office after school.

2. Next week is the First Grade Winter Showcase. If you are planning to dismiss your child from the show at 2:00, you MUST send a note in with your child in the morning.

3. We are becoming writers!!

Enjoying recess before the arctic freeze heading our way:

Happy Winter!!

Hello Families,

I am sure you will hear all about our emergency evacuation today from your child. Below is a notice that Mrs. Dressler is sending home today. Room 111 students were amazing and showed that they know how to react appropriately and safely in an emergency situation.  :)

Bear Says Thanks

Today during reading we read Bear Says Thanks and practiced retelling the story with shared writing. Later in the day we watched our 4th grade buddies put on a play for us called Turkey Takes a Stand. Don't let anyone know but sometimes there is some fun in first ;)

Thanksgiving Break

Hello everyone, I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and safe travels if you are traveling. I hope you enjoy the time with your family. Just a reminder that tomorrow is an early release day and dismissal will be at 11:15. If your child is doing something different to go home PLEASE be sure to send a note in the morning. Also, students are going home on the bus they come in on in the morning, there are no combined buses in the afternoon. I will double check with the students but if your child takes a different bus in the morning than in the afternoon, can you please let me know. I want to make sure everyone gets to where they need to be. Thanks for your help and have a wonderful Thanksgiving break, Crystal
