I hope you are all doing well :)
Things are moving along quickly in first grade at this point.
We have just finished up our chicken research writing. After vacation we will be starting their individual animal research projects. Students will have a choice of 4 animals, each first grade classroom will teach about 1 animal. So depending on the animal your child chooses to research, he or she may be in a different class each afternoon for about 2 weeks.
There will be a home project to go along with their research. We are still working out the details. A notice will come home about it with the homework packet on the Monday after break.
Next week, our class will revisit narrative writing by creating a poster or book (their choice) using pictures from home. For Monday, each student needs to bring in 3-5 photos. Some choices are writing about family members (so photos of family members), traveling or a special family place (so photos of multiple destinations or 3-5 photos of one destination), family holidays/celebrations...I am also open to other ideas. Photos can be printed or emailed to me. The photos will be glued onto their project or inserted digitally depending on student's product choice.
I've never done this project before but I am excited. I think it will be a lot of fun!
Lastly, as we are starting to think about the end of the school year, I would like to invite you all to our class author share on Tuesday June 20th from 10:45-11:15. I will send more details home as the date gets closer.
Please don't hesitate to reach out should you have any questions or concerns.
